ME MYSELF & ART: BEHIND THE SCENES FUNDRAISER FOR EMERGING ART AT THE DARLING FOUNDRY

Montreal, August 24, 2009 – The Darling Foundry courteously invites you to the second edition of Me Myself & Art on Thursday September 10, 2009 at 6 pm. This fundraising event will gather hundreds of art connoisseurs and creative professionals for a sneak preview of Alain Paiement’s exhibit, open studios, a contemporary arts sale, culinary creations as well as DJs, performances and surprises.

In coproduction with Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal, the photographic and videographic installation Arrangements d’après nature will herald Alain Paiement’s return to the Montreal arts milieu. Occupying the main exhibition hall, the artist pursues previous research around spatial representations constructed from cartographical techniques. However, this newest project perverts his previous top-down view and documentary rigueur by restoring architectural volumes and deliberately using simplistic digital modifications. A selection of photographic works created between 1996 and 2008 is presented in the smaller gallery as an overview of the artist’s transition from geographical perspectives to new procedures of fiction that characterize his recent productions.

Furthermore, the evening will present the perfect opportunity to discover the Darling Foundry’s new artists in creation studios. Three years after the inauguration of the creation spaces for local artists, a new wave of emerging talents such as Milutin Gubash, Therese Mastroiacovo, Michel De Broin and Olivia Boudreau will gradually take over the visual arts centre. Anthony Burnham, Valérie Blass, Adad Hannah, Suzanne Dery and Justin Stephens will also open their studios to the public.

A contemporary arts sale will bring the evening to a close. Selected works donated by artists such as Michael A. Robinson, Adad Hannah, Anthony Burnham and Suzanne Dery will be put up for sale. A list of works will be made available one week prior to the event.

In support of emerging artists, talented young chefs from renowned establishments – Le Local, Grange, Cluny ArtBar, L’Orignal and Avocado Traiteur – will collaborate to compose an exquisite menu. Throughout the night, DJs Jojo Flores, EP Bergen (BranVan3000), Rak Katigbak and DJ N.U. will provide the musical ambiance. The fundraiser will be followed by an afterparty with DJs and open studios, free of charge and open to all from 10 pm.

Me Myself & Art aims to immerse its guests into the world of contemporary artistic creation and to forge lasting relations. Funds will help the Darling Foundry maintain its residency programs and educational activities for children, teenagers and adults.

The Darling Foundry is a contemporary visual arts centre that supports the creation, production and promotion of emerging artists’ work. Located in a former metal foundry, the Darling Foundry presents original exhibitions and offers creation studios, educational programs, international artistic residencies, in situ projects, and more.
