Antoine Nessi

WINNER - France-Québec Exchange Residencies

Paysages, 2009, lead on cardboard, variable dimensions

Antoine Nessi is a young sculptor in his last year at the Beaux-Arts in Paris. His work stems from issues in architecture, furniture and design in practices related to in situ or gallery displays.

Nessi frequently uses raw construction materials as well as neon signs to create a distortion between the flamboyant economical aspects of his sculptures and the obsolescence of the context in which they are presented. Through molding, reproduction and an artful manipulation of form, the artist lends notions of standardization to a piece of trash as easily as he gives a serialized dimension to a wall in ruins. During his residence at the Darling Foundry, Nessi wishes to perform a series of sculptures in wood and metal using the formal vocabulary of contemporary furniture.

Born in 1985, Antoine Nessi attended the Beaux-Arts de Dijon, and the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris before pursuing his studies at the Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 2009 Nessi was awarded a fellowship by the City of Paris as part of the "Aide au projet individuel” program. He participated in several group exhibitions including the House of Thunder God (89), the PM Gallery in Berlin and The Housing of the Spider in Sarajevo.
