Mathieu Beauséjour

Monument, 2007
From October 19 to December 2 2007
Vernissage Thursday October 18 2007 from 5pm

Mathieu Beauséjour's Monument exposes the paradoxes and ambiguities within the history of popular revolutions. The large scale installation places the public within a common square, an inverted and constructed space which removes the audience from their assigned roles by calling upon quotidian revolutionary celebrations and a shifting historical perspective.

A catalogue will be launched on November 15th at 6pm in association with the exhibition featuring essays by Bernard Schütze, theorist and art critic and Ianik Marcil, economist. This public evening will begin with an artist's talk followed by a reception at the CLUNY ArtBar.

Self-taught, Mathieu Beauséjour has been exhibiting his installation work since the mid-90s. His projects have been shown in Canada, Colombia, France, Great-Britain, Germany and Serbia. Beauséjour is also a cultural worker, a curator, and an anarcho-utopist.
