Jean-François Laporte
Psukhô, Visual and sound installation, series of three concerts
From September 25 to October 5, 2008
Opening Thursday September 25 at 5 pm
Going beyond boundaries, composer Jean-François Laporte focuses on shaping the « sound » matter. Exploring the specific acoustics of a certain type of membrane, Psukhô uses « tu-yos », sound devices shaped as a balloon placed at the end of pipes of varying size and material. Laporte integrates an electronic and mechanical system that makes the instruments independant from human breath and therefore increases their sound potential and gives a certain autonomy. The new device he developed can then be used both as a sound and visual installation and as a mechanical device controlled by a musician and interacting with other instruments during a concert.
