Gigi Perron
Gigi Perron always speaks of the same characters. Fictive people, they are the imaginary and unique subjects of her paintings. Seated, standing, lying, alone or not, obsessive, they occupy the near totality of her canvasses. Boys, girls, hands, feet, eyes, noses, all of these elements invade or crowd the surface of her paintings to the extent that they often appear to have been compressed into it. The backgrounds of her paintings are secondary. Scanty, they leave very little room for decor, perspective or attributes.

Though the appearance of her subjects is developed, somewhat in the midst of becoming more human and less caricatural, their expressions are identical: sad, broken, amorphous, tottering from boredom.Through her technique, which exudes more and more confidence, Gigi Perron affirms her style by focusing on details, underlining imperfections, flaws, and bad habits, while at the same time valorizing her characters and rendering them sacred. Livid, her subjects are lighted in a way which echoes the avant garde icons, prisoners of a closed universe: mysterious, they remain misunderstood and without faith.
