Concert on July 27

Quartier Éphémère has invited the sound artist of Spanish origin Francisco Lopez to conduct a series of workshops on the theme of sampling with a group of Montreal artists. These workshops, which are to take place between April 12 and April 15, will open with a presentation by Lopez on the nature of field recording, its history and social implications. This will be followed by discussion sessions revolving around the different possible approaches to the practice, supported by the listening of various sound extracts.

The participating artists will then be invited to make their own field recordings within Montreal interior spaces, with the objective of putting together some original sound recordings that will lead to the creation of a collective sound installation, the exact nature of which will be determined in the course of the group discussions. Each artist will produce a sound piece aimed at presenting a portrait of Montreal that is both creative and abstract, in the sense that the sounds, taken from everyday life, will not be intended as reflections and recreations of a concrete reality.
